The Caged Bird that Sings for Nathalie

Guess who came to stay for the weekend? Yes, it's the divine Nathalie from Avignon in Photos and here she is doing what she does so beautifully - taking photographs. We went to the hill villages of Dolceacqua and Apricale in Italy on Saturday and yesterday spent the day in Menton and later, a quick trip to Gorbio.

We lunched by the beach at La Pergola, where I had the best risotto I've ever eaten - Nathalie had a plate of assorted fried fishes, which she declared to be excellent and all this washed down with a delicious pale rosé called Out of the Blue. Of course all this meant we had to walk it off and so, after lunch, we wandered along the Promenade de la Mer (Les Sablettes) where Nathalie noticed the caged birds at the Teranga Plage. Her photo is below.

Come back soon, dear Nathalie! Life is always the best fun when you are around.

  3. Sounds like a delightful weekend. You two have so much in common, given your background of both of you living in Australia and now France, and both being such talented photographers and observers of people, places and animals.

Speaking of animals, I have another post showing some dogs coming up in a couple of days

  5. Before i read your text, I thought; "That is one of us", -and than after reading it, I knew it was "one of us".

  6. Thank you so much Jilly for having me, we had such a great time!

Dave is right about the many things we have in common, and Australia is one. Both Jilly and I instantly recognised this bird as an Eastern Rosella (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Rosella), a common Australian parrakeet. I can't help but feel sad to see one in a cage when I've seen so many flying freely around suburban gardens.

  7. How nice to have a blogger visit! I so enjoyed meeting two bloggers in NYC and two in Seattle...who's next?

Lovely photos, both of them, and I love the little bird.

  8. The meeting of other bloggers is one of the greatest joys of belonging to this community. Maybe Sharon can pick me up on the east coast and we'll come together to Menton for a gathering.

  11. Well, if I got back to the south of France I don't know if I would be taking pictures or talking to you. Life is so tough in your part of the world.

  15. You've made a nice picture of Nathalie "in action". And nice to watch her result......the "effect" of the cage is splendid....

  16. What's a rosella doing out of its own environment? It seems to be OK, thankfully!

  17. PhotoMarg, what is any bird doing in a cage? You are right, of course. These people love their birds tho and all were OK. We had terrible weather after this photo and the area of the restaurant was pretty much washed away but the birds were all saved, thankfully.
